Pick **Shipping discount** under **Other discount types**, set the **Purchase requirements**, choose which rates it covers with **Rate names** and **Rate types**, and set the discount. For free shipping, use **Percentage** at 100. Ticking **Shipping discounts** under another discount's **Combines with** doesn't create free shipping; it only lets that discount combine with a separate shipping discount. ## Step by step 1. In SMART Discounts, click **Create new discount** and pick **Shipping discount** under **Other discount types**. 2. Enter a **Discount name** and choose **Automatic** or **Code** under **Application method**. 3. Under **Purchase requirements**, choose **No purchase requirements**, **Minimum order amount** (in your store currency) or **Minimum quantity**. 4. Under **Shipping rates**, optionally add **Rate names**: type a name and press Enter or click **Add**, and choose **contains** or **is**. "If no rate names are added, the discount will be applied to all shipping rates." In **Rate types**, keep the types it covers: **Shipping**, **Local delivery**, **Pickup point**, **Local pickup** and **Retail** (all on by default, at least one needed). 5. Under **Discount**, pick the **Discount type** (**Percentage**, **Amount off** or **Fixed price**), the **Discount value** and, for automatic discounts, a **Discount label** such as "Free shipping". For Percentage and Amount off you can tick **Add discount cap**. 6. Check **Purchase types**, **Combines with**, **Eligibility**, **Active dates** and the **Conditions** card in the right column, then click **Create**. ## How it's calculated - Every shipping rate that matches a name (case is ignored) and a ticked type is discounted. - **Percentage** takes that share off each matching rate, up to the cap if you set one. 100 makes it free. - **Amount off** takes that amount off each matching rate, up to the cap, and never more than the rate costs. - **Fixed price** sets matching rates to that price. Rates that already cost less are left alone. - **Minimum order amount** compares the cart subtotal, which Shopify describes as the amount before taxes and cart-level discounts ([Shopify developer docs](https://shopify.dev/docs/api/functions/latest/discount)). **Minimum quantity** counts every unit in the cart. - Code discounts show the code at checkout instead of a label. ## Limit it by country or delivery method - **By method:** use **Rate names** (for example "Standard") and **Rate types** (for example only **Shipping**, not **Local pickup**). - **By country:** in **Conditions**, switch on **Location** and choose **is any** or **is not any** with the countries. This checks the country Shopify gives the discount for the shopper's localized store ("The country for which the store is customized", [Shopify developer docs](https://shopify.dev/docs/api/functions/latest/discount)). To check the shipping address itself, use an Advanced discount (below). - **By customer:** **Conditions** > **Customer** (has any tags, has none of tags, has all tags) and the **Eligibility** card. See [Customer eligibility](https://smart-bundles.io/help/cart-discounts/customer-eligibility). - **By shipping address or products in the cart:** use an [Advanced discount](https://smart-bundles.io/help/cart-discounts/advanced-discounts). Click **Add shipping discount**, set **Delivery method names** and **Delivery method types**, and add conditions such as the address **Country**, **Postal code** or **Product group quantity**. For example: free standard shipping to Australia when the cart holds 2 or more items from one group. ## Combining with other discounts - A Shipping discount's **Combines with** offers only **Product discounts** and **Order discounts** (both on by default), so it doesn't combine with other shipping discounts. Shopify doesn't apply more than one shipping discount to an order ([Shopify Help Center](https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/discounts/discount-combinations)). - Both discounts must allow the combination. To have an Order goal and free shipping together, tick **Shipping discounts** on the Order goal and **Order discounts** on the Shipping discount. - The **Shipping discounts** box on another discount never lowers shipping by itself. Free shipping needs a shipping discount like this one. The discount shows at checkout when it applies. - **Subscriptions:** with **Applies on subscription purchases** off (the default), a cart holding any subscription item gets no shipping discount. - Checkouts that replace Shopify's own checkout don't run the app's discounts. **Offer free shipping on your terms** SMART Bundles includes Shipping, Order goal, Volume and Advanced discounts, automatic or with a code. Why? That box only lets the discount combine with a separate shipping discount. Create a Shipping discount (Percentage, 100) for free shipping, and allow the combination on both. ### How do I give free shipping only to one country? Switch on Location in the Conditions card and pick the country with is any. To check the shipping address itself, use an Advanced discount with the Address Country condition.
