Volume, Order goal, Buy X get Y and Shipping discounts have an **Eligibility** card (**All customers**, **Customer segments** or **Markets**), plus customer tag and country rules checked at checkout. Advanced discounts have segments plus their own tag and country conditions. Free gift has its own customer tags, **New customers only** and **Markets**. In the discount editor, find **Eligibility** and choose **All customers**, **Customer segments** or **Markets** (one of the three). 2. Click **Browse**, tick the segments or markets, and click **Select**. You need at least one. (The Advanced discount editor lists no markets, so use segments there.) 3. Save. This is Shopify's own eligibility setting: up to 5 customer segments on an automatic discount, up to 100 on a code ([Shopify Help Center](https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/discounts/managing-discounts)). ## Conditions card: tags and countries Volume, Order goal, Buy X get Y and Shipping discounts also have a **Conditions** card in the right column, checked by the discount at checkout on top of Eligibility: - **Customer:** switch it on and choose **has any tags**, **has none of tags** or **has all tags**. Type each tag and press Enter or click **Add**. - **Location:** switch it on, choose **is any** or **is not any**, and select countries. It checks the country Shopify reports for the shopper's localized store ([Shopify developer docs](https://shopify.dev/docs/api/functions/latest/discount)). - In an [Advanced discount](https://smart-bundles.io/help/cart-discounts/advanced-discounts), use the **Customer tag** condition, the Localization **Country** condition, or, on shipping discounts, the shipping address **Country**. ## Guests and tags - Only signed-in customers have tags. A guest never passes **has any tags**, **has all tags**, **Customers with any of these tags** or an Advanced **Customer tag** **is any** condition. - A guest always passes **has none of tags**, **Customers without these tags** and **Customer tag** **is not any**. - **Exclude one customer:** you can't exclude by email. Tag the customer in Shopify (for example NO_PROMO) and use **has none of tags**, **Customers without these tags** (Free gift) or **Customer tag** **is not any** (Advanced). If they check out as a guest, they still qualify. ## First-order and lifetime-spend deals - **Free gift:** tick **New customers only**: "Customers with no previous orders. Guests count as new customers." So a returning shopper who doesn't sign in also qualifies. - **Other types:** use a customer segment, such as number_of_orders = 0 for customers who haven't bought yet, or amount spent for loyal customers. Shopify notes that first-time customers have no customer profile yet and only join a segment after their first order ([Shopify Help Center](https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/discounts/discounts-faq)), so a segment can't reach a brand-new shopper's first order. - **Limit to one use per customer** needs a code discount: see [Automatic or code, and schedules](https://smart-bundles.io/help/cart-discounts/automatic-or-code-and-schedules). ## Free gift eligibility The Free gift's **Eligibility** card has **Customers** (**All customers**, **Customers with any of these tags**, **Customers without these tags**), **New customers only** and **Markets**. It has no segments or countries. See [Set up a free gift](https://smart-bundles.io/help/free-gifts/set-up-a-free-gift). ## B2B and POS - **Bundles:** in the bundle's **Settings** tab > **Eligibility**, **Exclude B2B** ("No discount for customers buying for a B2B company") and **Exclude POS** ("No discount on sales in your retail store (Shopify POS)"). Exclude POS is on for new bundles. B2B is exclude-only: there's no wholesale pricing. - **Free gift:** never applies in Shopify POS. It has no B2B setting, so B2B buyers can get the gift. - **Volume, Order goal, Buy X get Y, Shipping and Advanced:** no B2B or POS checkbox. In POS, Shopify applies automatic discounts only at retail locations with a POS Pro subscription ([Shopify Help Center](https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/discounts/discount-types/percentage-fixed-amount)). See [POS support](https://smart-bundles.io/help/troubleshooting/pos-support). ## Bundles can't target customers A bundle can be limited by market, and outside those markets the widget is hidden ([Markets and currencies](https://smart-bundles.io/help/getting-started/markets-and-currencies)). It can't be limited to a customer segment, a customer tag or one customer. For customer-specific deals, use a [Volume discount](https://smart-bundles.io/help/cart-discounts/volume-discounts) or an [Order goal](https://smart-bundles.io/help/cart-discounts/order-goal-discounts), which work in the cart and at checkout but show nothing on the product page. **Target the right customers** SMART Bundles discounts work with Shopify segments, markets, customer tags and countries. No. Bundles can't target tags or segments. Use a Volume discount or Order goal with Conditions > Customer > has any tags, or a segment in Eligibility. ### My segment discount didn't apply to a new customer's first order. Why? Shopify adds a new customer to segments only after their first order is complete. For a first-order gift, use Free gift with New customers only.
