On the bundle's **Extras** tab, turn on **Progressive gifts** and add each step with **Add gift**: **One product** (a free product) or **Free shipping**. Each step unlocks at an offer or a spend amount, and the widget shows the ladder with its progress above or below the offers. ## Set it up 1. Open the bundle in **SMART Discounts**, go to the **Extras** tab and switch on **Progressive gifts**. 2. Pick a **Layout** (**Cards** or **List**) and a **Position** (**Above the offers** or **Below the offers**). 3. Click **Add gift** and choose **One product** ("A product you pick, added for free") or **Free shipping** ("Free shipping on the order once unlocked"). A ladder can have one free shipping step. 4. In each step, set **Unlock at**: **Offer #N and higher**, **Offer #N only**, or **Spend at least...** with a **Minimum spend**. Then **Gift quantity**, **Image (optional)**, **Badge text**, **Crossed-out value**, **Title** and **Title when locked**. 5. Edit the ladder texts: **Title** (default "Free gifts with your order 🎁"), **Subtitle**, **Unlocked label**, **Locked label**, **Items to go** ("Add {{n}} more"), **Amount to go** ("Spend {{amount}} more"), **When every gift is unlocked** and **Unlock button text**. A cleared text shows nothing. 6. Choose **Show progress** (a step line over cards, a bar over a list), **Hide gifts until they are unlocked** and **Show product images on locked gifts**. Colors and look are on the card's **Style** tab. 7. Click **Save**. ## How steps unlock at checkout - **Offer #N and higher**: the cart holds at least as many units of the bundle's products as that offer has, counted together. - **Offer #N only**: that offer is the one checkout prices the cart with. - **Spend at least...**: the bundle's products in the cart reach that amount at their prices before discounts, converted to the shopper's currency. Other products, gift lines and upsell lines don't count. - A product gift is free (100% off) for its **Gift quantity**. The widget adds it to the cart as its own line once the step is reached, and removes it when the cart no longer qualifies. - **Free shipping** takes 100% off the order's shipping at checkout while that step is reached. It applies only to orders that reach the step, not store-wide. ## Letting customers choose their gift - **Variants, yes.** A gift product with 2 or more variants shows a variant select on its step once it is unlocked. Use **Edit variants** on the gift to limit the choice. Sold-out variants can't be picked. - **Different products, no.** Each gift row is one product, so shoppers can't choose between gift products. You can give each offer its own gift instead (**Add gift** on the offer card). - With the [Buy X get Y discount type](https://smart-bundles.io/help/cart-discounts/buy-x-get-y-discounts), customers add the Y item themselves, so they can choose any product you list there. It has nothing on the product page. ## Edge cases - Ladder steps apply only while the **Progressive gifts** switch is on. Switching it off keeps your steps saved. - A sold-out gift product isn't shown as a step and isn't added. - Gifts are added from a page that shows the bundle widget. If a shopper reaches a step only by changing quantities on the cart page, the gift isn't added there. A gift whose bundle left the cart is removed on any page. - A locked card is clickable: it selects the smallest offer that unlocks it. - A gift added with **Add gift** inside an offer comes only with that offer, not with higher tiers. - For a gift on every page by cart value, without a bundle, use [Free gift tiers](https://smart-bundles.io/help/free-gifts/free-gift-tiers). No. Shipping is free only on orders that reach that step of this bundle. ### Can customers pick one of several gift products? No. Each step gives one product. Customers can pick its variant when the product has more than one. ### Does a spend step count discounted prices? No. It counts the bundle's products at their prices before discounts.
