# How do I set up a Mix and match offer?

Create a bundle from the **Mix and match** template (Any 2, Any 3 and Any 4 at 10, 20 and 30% off), set **Show this bundle on** to the products that can be mixed, and keep **Shoppers pick the products** on so shoppers fill the other slots in the widget. Checkout counts every targeted product in the cart together and applies the highest tier reached.

*Mix and match: any 2, 3 or 4 products, picked by the shopper.*

## Set it up

1. In **SMART Discounts**, click **Create new discount** and pick **Mix and match**. The template targets **Collections**, with Any 2 pre-selected.
2. Under **Show this bundle on**, pick the collections (or choose **Products** or **All products**). These are the products that count toward the offer and the products shoppers can pick.
3. Open each offer and set **Quantity**, **Discount** and **Value**. New Mix and match offers start with **Only full packs of N get the discount** ticked.
4. Keep **Shoppers pick the products** on (it is on in new offers): "The first item is this product. Shoppers choose the rest from the products in Show this bundle on."
5. Set **Empty slots**: **Block Add to cart until every slot is filled** (default), **Fill them with this product**, or **Add only the chosen products**.
6. Set **Slots start**: **Empty** (default) or **With this product (shoppers can swap it)**. Then **Card price**: **Count empty slots as this product** (default) or **Count only chosen products**.
7. Style the picker on the **Design** tab > **Element styles** > **Product picker**: **List** or **Grid**, products per row (also on mobile), **Default sort**, **Show search**, **Show sort**, product names and links, prices, **Show slots before the offer is selected**, **Show how many products are left** and an **Empty slot image**. Texts such as "Choose {{ n }} more products" are on the **Settings** tab > **Widget text**.
8. Save the bundle.

## Which products shoppers can pick

- Products from **Show this bundle on**, minus exclusions, up to the first 250. The editor notes: "Shoppers can pick from the first 250 products."
- Order: **Products** in the order you picked them, **Collections** in each collection's own sort order, **All products** as your active products by title.
- Draft and archived products are left out, and so are products not on the Online Store or not sold in the shopper's market. Sold-out products are hidden as they sell out.
- The list is saved with the bundle. Products added to a collection later, newly tagged or newly excluded show in the picker after you save the bundle again. Checkout uses the current collections at once.
- If the list can't load on a page, the offer still sells as N units of the viewed product.

## How checkout prices it

- **Counted together.** Every targeted product line in the cart counts toward one tier, in any mix, and the highest tier reached applies.
- **Full packs.** With **Only full packs of N get the discount** ticked, Any 3 with 4 items in the cart (and no Any 4 tier) discounts 3 and charges full price for 1. Untick it to discount every unit once a tier is reached. **Fixed total price** always counts full packs.
- **The cart counts, not the picker.** The picker settings only change what the widget shows and adds. With **Add only the chosen products**, a shopper who fills 2 of 3 slots adds 2 items, and checkout prices them by the tier 2 items reach.
- **Any page adds up.** Shoppers can also add each product from its own page, which is how the offer works with **Shoppers pick the products** off. To count only widget adds, use **Apply the discount only to items added through the widget** (Settings tab).

## Limits

- A Mix and match offer where shoppers pick the products is always a one-time purchase.
- The picker lives inside the product page widget. For a cart-only mix with nothing on the product page, use a [Volume discount](https://smart-bundles.io/help/cart-discounts/volume-discounts).
- A product page shows one bundle, so avoid two bundles on the same collection. Pricing details such as per-item rounding are in [Quantity break tiers](https://smart-bundles.io/help/bundles/quantity-break-tiers).

**Let shoppers build their own mix** SMART Bundles App & Upsells is free on the Shopify App Store, with Mix and match and the product picker included. [Install SMART Bundles App & Upsells on the Shopify App Store](https://apps.shopify.com/smart-automatic-discounts).

## Frequently asked questions

### I added a product to the collection, but it isn't in the picker. Why?

The picker list is saved with the bundle. Open the bundle and save it again, and the new product shows up.

### Why does one item pay full price?

**Only full packs of N get the discount** is ticked, so only whole packs are discounted. Untick it, or add a higher tier.

### Can shoppers add the products from their own pages instead?

Yes. Checkout counts every targeted product in the cart, wherever it was added.
